Organising/coordinating the training of all ONLINE LEARNING reps either directly or with our education partners (please see below).
Building and maintaining a network of Union Learning Reps.
Ensuring that ONLINE LEARNING is represented on national, regional and local training bodies.
Lobbying for suitable vocational training for employees and freelance workers.
Seeking out and delivering new ‘lifelong learning’ opportunities for ONLINE LEARNING members.
Any ONLINE LEARNING representative can attend courses at the Induction and Key Skills stage, whereas to attend ‘Advanced Skills’ courses you will need to have attended an earlier course or be quite experienced. Check with your National Official or give us a call at Head Office if you want any advice.
All ONLINE LEARNING courses are designed to be interactive and democratic so that they reflect our trade union values. The methods used will develop your communication, problem solving and persuading skills and most importantly allow you to reflect on ways to help ONLINE LEARNING work better for its members.
The next phase is an opportunity to develop new skills that will be useful, in this instance as a union representative (although the skills and knowledge you develop will be useful in your professional and personal life). It is a requirement of the ‘Advanced Skills’ courses that you must have attended one of the key skills options outlined above and/or have considerable practical experience. This is because the content and standard of the course assume good pre-existing knowledge of employment relations, workplace practices and workplace procedures. Union Learning Reps and Safety Reps have their own specific courses but they are strongly encouraged to participate in the programme outlined below in order to fully develop their skills and knowledge.
